Acupuncture is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), one of the oldest continuous systems of medicine dating back 5,000 years.
It is the most commonly used system of healing in the world.
Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on the belief that what happens to one part of the body affects every other part of the body.
Organs and organ systems are viewed as interconnected structures that work together to keep the body functioning. |

What is Qi ?
One of the Traditional Chinese Medicine concepts is Qi (pronounced “chi”), which is considered a vital force or energy that flows through the body via channels, or pathways, called meridians.
The Chinese believe imbalances in the flow of Qi ( vital energy) causes illness.
Acupuncture restores this balance, thus allowing for the normal flow of Qi throughout the body and restoring health to the mind and body.
How it works - Biochemistry
Acupuncture causes the release of several naturally occurring substances in the body that facilitate healing and maintain the body's internal balance.
One of these naturally occurring substances is ENDORPHIN; which helps eliminate pain, elevates mood and promotes deep relaxation.
Another substance released is CORTISONE, which reduces inflammation.
Acupuncture has also been shown to improve circulation throughout the body, increase oxygen levels in the brain, stimulate the body's immune response and influence the bioelectrical activity of the body.
